Cisco® Unified Communications System Engineer (UCSE)

Course slide preview for UCSECisco® Unified Communications for System Engineer covers all of the topics necessary for installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of a Cisco Unity® 4.0 system in either a stand-alone voice mail or unified messaging environment. UCSE provides best practice information for installation, upgrades, and technical level system set up. Students completing UCSE after UCSA will be well prepared for the Cisco Unity® System Engineer exam when it is released early this summer (03). This 5-day course consists of two student guides. The first guide is Unified Communications for System Administration (UCSA) and the second is titled Unified Communications for System Engineers.

You will learn to:

  • Identify if a computer system meets the minimum hardware requirements for a Cisco Unity® system or explain why it does not
  • Determine if a voice board that has a particular hardware set up is correct for a Cisco Unity® system or explain how to correct it
  • Determine if a voice board that has a particular hardware set up is correct for a Unity Bridge system or explain how to correct it
  • Describe Cisco's various unified communications architectures
  • Describe the software needed to perform a successful installation of the unified products
  • Install the Cisco Unity® system
  • Describe the use of CUSPA and CUICA
  • Describe the upgrade process for the Cisco unified communications products
  • Describe the integration of Cisco's various unified communications systems with particular telephone switches
  • Choose which scenarios would appropriately use blind addressing in Cisco Unity from a list of possible scenarios
  • Describe how messages are delivered and directories replicated
  • Describe how SMTP, AMIS, VPIM, and the Cisco Unity Bridge are used to deliver messages
  • Describe addressing options in Cisco Unity®
  • Describe the advantages of Cisco Unity's® networking capabilities
  • Create and use Internet, AMIS, VPIM, and Bridge Subscribers
  • Describe and be able to use the basic tools provided in Unity for system maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting

Prerequisites:

  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows 2000 and Exchange 5.5 or Exchange 2000 (MCSE recommended)
  • Ability to competently program at least one manufacturer's telephone switching equipment (i.e., Cisco CallManager, NEC NEAX 2000 or 2400, Avaya Definitiy series, etc.)
