Deploying & Maintaining Carrier Ethernet Services (METSI)
Length: 5-day Workshop
Metro Ethernet Switching solutions allow Service Providers to offer Layer 2, Ethernet based services that support point-to-point and multi-point connectivity. This boot camp is designed to teach attendees how to configure and test seven (7) Metro Ethernet Services that comprise Cisco® Metro Ethernet Solution Release 3.x. Metro Ethernet architectures, features and network designs will be covered. Within hands on labs, attendees will build various Layer 2 VPN Ethernet Service Solutions including Ethernet Relay Service, Ethernet Wireless Service, Ethernet Multipoint Service, Ethernet Relay Multipoint Service, ERS Access to MPLS VPN, and Access to ATM Internetworking Service.
You will learn to:
- Relate the importance of the Cisco® Metro Ethernet Solution to the Service Provider markets
- Describe, configure, and troubleshoot the various Metro Ethernet deployment solutions (ERS, EWS, EMS, ERMS, ERS Access to MPLS VPNs and Access to ATM Internetworking)
- Given a particular service model and platform configuration, identify the various caveats of each service model, such as VLAN implementation at the CE, or tunneling vs. trunking, etc.
- Identify the configuration differences between Layer 2 Metro Ethernet service implementation and Layer 3 MPLS
- Given a specific customer scenario, identify the various equipment and solution which would best fit the customer's requirements
- Implement features and functionality of the various platforms that are supported by Metro Ethernet solution, for example: VLAN IDs, Spanning Tree, QoS mechanisms, network resiliency and security
- Verify configurations
Recommended for:
- Individuals who design Service Provider Metro Ethernet Switching network solutions
- Individuals who implement end-to-end Metro Ethernet Switching Services
- Individuals who deploy networks using Metro Ethernet Switching Services
Prerequisites:
- Cisco IOS®, routing fundamentals and IP addressing knowledge as covered in ICND course, or equivalent experience. CCNA® certification is the preferred source to gain this knowledge (required)
- Building Core Networks with OSPF, BGP and MPLS - available through AS Network Deployment Mentoring organization, or proficient experience in OSPF, BGP and MPLS (required)
