Directive 8570

The Department of Defense Directive 8570 has set up guidance and procedures for the training, certification, and management of all government employees who are perform functions in Information Assurance assigned duty positions. These individuals must carry the approved certification for their particular job classification.

According to the directive, it is required that all managerial and technical staff with privileged access to any DoD system—including full- and part-time military service personnel, defense contractors, civilian and foreign employees— be certified on the concepts, principles and applications that will improve the protection of the Department's data, information systems and networks. A timetable has been set that aims to have 100% of the workforce fully certified by the calendar year 2010.
