Advanced Cisco® Cable Routers (ACCR)

Length: 4-day Workshop

This Advanced Cable Router Course follows the current Introduction to Cisco® Cable Router ILT Course and addresses the needs of Cable Operator personnel with more than six months of on-the-job experience. The ACCR course will focus on understanding advanced design considerations, traffic flow characteristics, IOS-based security options and the effects of various tuning parameters available in the Cisco® IOS® software designed for Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) products.

Students will learn the advanced physical features available in DOCSIS 2.0 equipment and how to effectively monitor and manage bi-directional traffic flows by service class. The course focuses on hardware and Cisco IOS features that add resiliency and security to the cable network. The labs provide students with configuration and operational control over an upstream and downstream data path within the HFC environment. The course can be delivered in various geographic locations using remote lab access. The course includes instructor-led lectures and demonstrations as well as hands-on labs, self-checks and quizzes.

You will learn to:

  • Describe the current DOCSIS implementation in detail and, at a conceptual level, describe how DOCSIS technology is adapting to meet Service Provider and customer needs
  • Describe the benefits and limitations associated with the advanced PHY components of a DOCSIS 2.0 deployment
  • Discuss the design considerations surrounding the deployment of a robust, resilient, highly available cable infrastructure in support of residential and commercial services
  • Discuss the use of IOS® tools to actively control traffic flows and to support traffic policies within the cable environment
  • Describe the considerations for an effective security policy within a cable network environment
  • Describe key, adjustable parameters that can affect overall cable network functionality and performance
  • Describe the considerations to weigh prior to deploying new technology options in a cable network environment

Recommended for:

This offering is designed for those Cisco Systems Engineers, Cisco Channels Partners, Integrators, and Customers, with more than nine months cable working experience, who are responsible for implementation and verification of DOCSIS 1.1 and 2.0 multimedia services being deployed on Cisco Systems® Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platforms.
